#NoDAPL – 1.5 Million Signatures and counting

Millions of people across the globe are showing their support for an ever growing population of peaceful protesters in North Dakota. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is deeply concerned about the construction of a major crude-oil pipeline that passes through its ancestral lands.

Route of the North Dakota Access Pipeline

On July 26, 2016 the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe was stunned to learn that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had given its approval for the pipeline to run within a half-mile of the reservation without proper consultation or consent.

There are two targeted issues- First, the pipeline would pass under the Missouri River near Lake Oahe, just a half a mile upstream from the tribe’s reservation boundary. Second, the pipeline would pass through areas of great cultural significance, such as sacred sites and ancestral burial grounds that federal law seeks to protect.

Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners will build, own and operate the proposed $3.78 billion Dakota Access Pipeline and plans to transport up to 570,000 barrels of crude oil fracked from the Bakken oil fields across four states to a market hub in Illinois. The pipeline—already facing widespread opposition by a coalition of farmers, ranchers and environmental groups—will cross 209 rivers, creeks and tributaries, according to Dakota Access, LLC.

This same Pipeline project was deemed unsafe and turned down by white residents in Minnesota and North Dakota- Even culminating in the halt on project advancement for another portion of the Bakken Pipeline, “The Sandpiper”

Dakota Access LLC is a small pipeline company based in North Dakota. The firm, a subsidiary of Energy Transfer Partners (NYSE: ETP), has big plans to connect the Bakken crude oil formation with the rest of the United States. The company’s Dakota Access Pipeline, a 1,134-mile and 30-inch-diameter infrastructure project, will swing through the Bakken oil patch and traverse North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa and finish in Illinois:
Builders of the pipeline insist that they have taken extraordinary measures to safeguard against disaster, but opponents point out that even the safest pipelines can leak. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration has reported more than 3,300 incidents of leaks and ruptures at oil and gas pipelines since 2010. And even the smallest spill could damage the tribe’s water supply.

North Dakota produced a record 1.23 million barrels of oil per day in December 2014, but that has been on the decline since low oil prices prompted companies to cut back on drilling and postpone well completions. The state produced just under 1.05 million barrels per day in May.

An investigation, published by research outlet LittleSis, names over two dozen major banks and financial institutions helping to finance the Dakota Access pipeline. It details how Bank of America, HSBC, UBS, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase and other financial institutions have, combined, extended a $3.75 billion credit line to Energy Transfer Partners, the parent company of Dakota Access.

Even Presidential Candidate Donald Trump, (R.) disclosed that between half a million and a million dollars in investments in the primary builder of the Dakota Access pipeline, The Texas-based firm Energy Transfer partners. Trump also disclosed his upwards of 100,000 $ investment in Conoco-Philips 66 which would own a quarter of #DAPL once finished.

During the later part of 2016- Standing Rock protesters have faced serious violence and oppression, human rights violations and reservation treaty violations. Police and authorities from 6 states have gathered together with the United States National Guard to forcibly remove those who oppose the construction. Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners warned that demonstrators occupying land in the pipeline’s path—land to which both the corporation and local tribes lay claim—must leave or face prosecution.

Tribal members and their supporters have chosen to remain fixed in place, vehemently protesting even while facing men in riot gear, armored vehicles, rubber bullets and ferocious, highly trained dogs- chanting, “No surrender, no retreat!

International attention has recently been given to the #NoDAPL protest, garnering attention from the united Nations and Amnesty International among other civil and human rights organizations.

420-Friendly Father’s Day Gift Guide

Father’s day is coming up – This year it falls on June 19th, 2016 to be exact. Are you ready? If not, here is a list sure to make for a memorable father’s day. Stepping past ties, coffee mugs and issues of Playboy- here is a list of 420 friendly, cannabis culture items your dad would probably never expect:

The Adventurer

The Adventurer water pipe, by Strong Silicone, is a bong designed to withstand the rigors of a real adventure. This food-grade silicone piece is simple to use, easy to clean and maintain, a breeze to transport and impossible to break. So impossible that the producers guarantee its longevity with a lifetime warranty. People have driven over these bongs and then smoked out of them unhindered after. That is pretty damn durable for a bong. If your dad is a snowboarder, hiker, hunter or mechanic or an all-around clumsy guy, this is definitely the piece for them!

~~~I’ve used one of these and in fact own a blue one (pictured below) These things are just as durable as the producers say they are. These things are a snap to roll up and stash in the bottom of a backpack while travelling. I highly recommend adding one to your collection.
The Vape Guy
Does your dad vape? Does he have a tiny little vaporizer that could use an upgrade? The Mighty vaporizer is perfect for that guy that is seeking a substantial and durable vaporizing unit. Mighty is a highly regarded unit that has great reviews across the internet. The unit delivers smooth, dense Vapor allowing for a higher lift if you get what I mean. Give dad some impact this father’s day!
The “Always Grinding” Dad
The ZEUS Bolt grinder is a premium herb grinder made from anodized air craft grade aluminum. This smooth unit features diamond sharpened teeth, an odor concealing hard shell case, and a life time warranty, so rest assured it will be the last grinder you will ever buy for Pops.
The DIY chemist
Does your dad like to talk science? Is he always rattling off compounds and elements? Get a Green Oil Machine for dad and he will be knee-deep in research perfecting his homemade Full extract cannabis oil, or any plant oils for that matter. This is an all-in-one unit that not only distills and reclaims ethanol but also provides a very therapeutic medicinal oil. I recommend gifting an ounce of sticky buds and a half gallon of ever clear with this one.
The Gardener
A perfect gift for the gardener of any skill set is Ed Rosenthal’s, “Marijuana Grower’s Handbook.” This book provides a great starting point for anyone seeking an overall immersion into the world of Growing Cannabis. All aspects of growing cannabis from set up to bowl is covered, featuring full color photos and illustrations, this handbook delivers all the basics that a novice grower needs, as well as scientific research and diagrams for the experienced and analytical cultivar.
The Connoisseur
Found in a select few Oregon cannabis boutiques, is flower grown on a level mastered by few. Green Bodhi, a cannabis cultivar that practices intentional horticulture along with sustainable and organic methods of cultivation produces some of the best cannabis in Oregon. His dedication to this plant leads to consistently flavorful and superior quality bud that will be a memorable gift for any cannabis aficionado.
Green Bodhi has proprietary strains such as Mystery Haze, Hazy Kush and Golden Pineapple that will deliver crisp, clean and highly cerebral highs that promote a state of whole body well-being. You can find Green Bodhi grown flower at Calyxes, Farma and Oregon’s Finest – all Portland Oregon shops.
The Chocoholic
Cannabis infused edible goodies are one of the most sought out forms of consumption globally. The smell of cannabis is usually faint or all together non-existent. Chocolate is a classic way to mask the taste of cannabis, especially when plant material is used for infusion i.e. cannabis flower and hash. Blaze Bars, locally produced in Portland Oregon utilize a full extract cannabis oil (RSO, FECO) in all candy bars.
This full bodied and pleasant high is delivered in various flavors such as Cookies & Cream, Maple Bacon, Oregon Hazelnut and Blueberry, Candied Lemon Drop amongst a few others. The bars come in a 100mg dose, separated in 10 hash marked pieces. Blaze candy bars can be found in many dispensaries across Oregon, namely Canna-daddy’s, Maritime Cafe and Stoney Only.
“Zeus: Ice Born” Chilled Vapors
Zeus Arsenal has brought a very intriguing product to the vaping scene and it just may change the way you vape. I was recently sent an “Ice Born” to give it a try and see what I thought of it.
What is the Ice Born?
Putting your warm vapors on a chill path- the Ice born is a brand new accessory that is designed to be used with almost every vaporizer on the market. Its purpose is to naturally cool down and improve your vapor by way of ice purification. The producers were not wrong about it being universal, it fit all 4 of the vaporizer units I have here at home, best fitting my Arizer Air Vaporizer and Vape Oregon Vape pen. If your vape mouthpiece can accommodate the attachment hose, then you are in business.
How Does it work?
zeus-icebron-artistic-02The Ice Born stands at approximately 4.5 inches tall and 3 or so inches in diameter. The Plastic top comes off to reveal a series of aluminum tubes inside held closely together by silicone gaskets. After quickly dismantling and rinsing all components of their factory dust, I filled the base of the Ice Born up to the fill line and placed it directly in the freezer. Once the water is frozen around the aluminum tubes, connect the hoses to the unit and your vaporizer and you are ready to experience a very satisfying update to the classic Ice catching bong.
The vapor you inhale does not traverse through any mediums such as water, which cool the essential oils within the vapor and draw them out, leaving them behind in the water. This is important for anyone who is vaporizing Cannabis or its derivatives for medicinal purposes, as you would receive more of the beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes. The Zeus Ice Born can help make your medicine go much further, delivering more at once.
What I thought-
There is nothing like this product out there. I have to say that I am impressed with the ingenuity of the design, it is sleek, user friendly and easy to stash when needed. It is a very interesting looking unit, which is sure to create conversations if brought out to use with friends.
The flexible hoses and sealing gaskets are all food grade silicone, the plastic housing of the unit is food grade as well, it is very solid and just to check durability I “accidentally” dropped it on the floor. The unit survived the 4-foot drop without a dent, the top stay intact as well. There was definitely some thought put into the design and prototyping process. But! Just in case you drop it harder, and the unit does break, it looks like there is a lifetime replacement warranty on the housing. Still I recommend keeping it table top during use.
The base of the Ice born stays relatively clean as there is nothing to withhold resins from the vapor- this also increases the potency. I’m sure over time there would be a light layer of resinous build up on the inner aluminum chambers from condensation collecting, but I would be willing to bet it is negligible.
The Zeus Ice Born is a moderate investment, selling for $69.99 on the Zeus Arsenal website. Though when considering the benefits, its universal design and durability, you could consider it money well spent. The best investments are long term investments and investments into your health. This is both.
Final Thoughts-
Overall I really like this product; I will continue to use it and recommend you consider purchasing one if you are a moderate to heavy vaper or are a medical cannabis patient who needs an inhaled medicine without the harshness of smoke or hot vapor. Zeus Arsenal has brought a highly useful and practical product to the market.
Hemp Soap for Hope
Oregon Cannabis businesses and residents have been making headlines recently by jumping in on presidential politics. Foster Buds and its sister dispensary Glisan Buds made national headlines with their fundraiser “Burn One for Bernie.” Donating proceeds from pre-rolled joint sales directly to the Bernie Sanders campaign. Portland residents came in droves to support this push for president, pushing up dispensary sales, providing the ability for a sizeable donation to be made. Also notable, Ariel Zimman, a 29-year-old artist from Portland, is currently producing and selling ceramic pipes featuring Bernie Sanders’ logo in support of his presidential campaign; through her company, “Stonedwear” she has been making regular contributions as well.
Inspired by and wanting to assist Bernie on the trail to the white house, passionate Hemp and Cannabis advocate, Ben Christensen, founder of Oregon Hemp Works, a company that produces a variety of hemp soap bars has also stepped up. Recently Christensen launched the “Feel The Bern” 6 pack soap sampler. Listed on the website for $41.00, the six pack features flagship Oregon Hemp Works soap scents such as “Relax” and “CedarWood.” “Feel The Bern” purchases of this six pack to the Sanders campaign means you can count on 15% going to Sanders.
“I wanted to assist in the Sanders campaign because I finally see a chance to get someone great in office.” Says Christensen, “I was hesitant because it’s taking a strong political position as a business owner. I was once told by to not have public opinions on things.” He goes on, “I just feel it’s everyone’s duty to use their voice to speak up for what is right”
Oregon Hemp Works is an Oregon-local company producing hand-crafted products like soap and lotion. They also offer other hemp-items such as bags, wallets, seed/oil, even dog collars. Being dedicated to sustainability and organic living the ingredients in the products are natural and worry free. The soap craftsman produces natural and organic hemp soap using a method that is nearly 5000 years old.
Oregon Hemp Works Founder, Benjamin Christensen
“The purpose of Oregon Hemp Works is to produce amazing hemp products for people to be able to personally experience the versatility of the plan.” Ben says, “Hemp is one thing to read about, but it has so much more impact when you can actually use it. People need to know about hemp, especially when considering how much it had to do with our history.”
When asked what about Bernie appeals to him Ben didn’t hesitate, “Bernie appeals to me because he says normal human things. He wants equality; equality for all, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, religion and income level. He also wants to fix the corruption that uses our tax dollars so poorly.” He pauses and goes on with a grin, “This is what all the candidates should be saying, but they aren’t.- Not at all.”
If you are looking for a neat way to both support a local company that produces artisan products by hand and support such an endearing candidate for President of the United States, then visit www.oregonhempworks.com and make a purchase of the “Feel The Bern” 6 pack sampler. The great thing about supporting this endeavor is that you don’t necessarily have to smoke cannabis, nor live in Oregon.
Discussing the Arizer Air Vaporizer
The quest for the perfect personal vaporizer seems never ending. There is a huge selection of mainstream and upcoming vape brands on the internet to choose from; Countless boxes of vape pens and accessories line the shelves of local head shops. I myself have run the gamut of vape pens and have most to be lacking in a few or a lot of necessary features. Currently, no specific brand has won me over entirely- well, save for Vape Oregon. I have spent time with Atmos, and KangerTech amongst a few others that have been so unimpressive that the brands have faded from memory.
This time I decided that I would go with an Arizer brand vaporizer; specifically, the Arizer – Air multi-purpose “micro-heater.”
When the Arizer package arrived I opened to find first a small packet of a colorful dried flower specimen, labeled “wildflower.” The packet made me chuckle knowing that I had a different flower in mind. Underneath this was a medium-sized, black cylindrical electronic device cozily resting in a thick foam padding surrounding by various borosilicate glass accessories. The Arizer unit itself is lightweight and is produced from a very durable design. Standing at 122mm in Height and 29mm in Diameter, the Arizer fits nicely in my hand, like an extra-long roll of quarters. It is not cumbersome though it is also not entirely discreet. This is not a worry, being a medical cannabis cardholder and living in a legalized state, discretion is no longer first consideration when considering a vape pen.
If one takes the time to read the directions, the unit is quite easy to operate. It is challenging to understand the device without instructions. The operation consists of utilizing one button for multiple operations. Powering on the device is simple; figuring out the temperature setting is the trick. There are various settings- five to be exact; each displayed by a different color- Blue, purple, green, orange and red. This is not a push and hold power design, this is a set up for a session. Give each temperature setting a bit to reach the peak before inhaling. Arizer operation leaves the device continually warming, meaning you can load, use, clean and reload all while the unit maintains temperature.
A tubular piece of glass with a small four-hole screen attached to a bowl piece is easy what is used on the Arizer – this is called a diffuser stem. The straw like set up provides an opportunity for a very streamline draw. I found that grinding my cannabis lightly was the best way to load the diffuser. The oil glands ruptured during grinding gives a fuller- more robust palate while evenly vaporizing the oils across the flower. One down fall I experienced here was during inhalation. Be mindful about how intense you are drawing when using the Arizer, fine grindings can pass through the holes in the diffuser stem, much like a pipe can. Once a user becomes more comfortable with the unit this happens less often, the need to inhale powerfully is unnecessary. The perfect way to draw is slow, even and deeply. This will also increase the amount of cannabinoids that pass into the bloodstream by increasing the amount of lung capacity filled.
I felt the effects of my cannabis after the first few pulls. My flower choice was a potent Indica known as “Crockett’s Confidential” bred by cup-winning Crockett Family Farms, cultivated by Ideal Cannabis in Portland Oregon. I notice the average amount needed to feel high is about three diffuser stem loads. I found my preferred setting to be Green- this setting provided a smooth, lightly –warm vapor, rich in terpenes. Remember when unloading and reloading the stem once you’ve been using it, that it is quite hot and can cause burns to occur, always use the provided tool. I also recommend that you do your best to retrieve the already been vaped (ABV) flower and repurpose it for edibles or oils as there are still available medicinal cannabinoids left.
Overall the unit is pretty cool, I have taken the time to use it and become familiar with it for about 2-3 weeks before writing this blog, and I can say that I do like for certain occasions. When I have time to sit back, relax and just spend some time vaping is ideal. It would also be useful in social situations as it stays hot between pulls which prevents confusion amongst friends. I wouldn’t try this is awkward areas, where discretion is necessary or when you are looking for an instant vape without a wait.
Rating this vape pen on a 1-10 scale I would give it an overall 7.5. The Arizer Air is an investment;However this unit can be purchased for $149.99 at the Vaporizera website, www.vaporizera.com.
Tips For Riding Tri-Met in Portland Oregon
Taking a job in the heart of the city sometimes means alternate methods of commuting if punctuality is to be maintained. The daily commute took me an average of 60 minutes to get to work from my home; Even though Google maps GPS quoted me 28 minutes. I easily let this slide as listening to my positive upbeat music while stalling out wasn’t too big of an issue. This ease of mind faded within the first week as shitty drivers and backed up traffic made for a monotonous stop and go slow death- I had to find a different approach. Portland is one of the most public transit, cyclist and pedestrian friendly cities I’ve ever stepped foot in. The answer dawned on me- I would begin riding mass transit.
This was the best solution to the never ending sadist ritual known as the morning commute. I eagerly collected the daily fee of riding Trimet in the Portland Metro area, five dollars. 5 dollars gives an all day, all zone ticket, basically a stress-free ride to anywhere Portland. Traveling from Oregon City to downtown Portland takes a bit longer than traffic due to all of the stops. I added an average 30 minutes to my daily commute each way.  This may seem like an eternity to some on the 9-5 grind, but really being hands-free gave me availability. Suddenly my multi-job efficiency experienced an uptick- not unlike a morning worker before and after caffeine.
I am a people watching experience hound. I love to absorb the world around me in the form of observation rather than conversation. I am by no means and introvert- but people really do bug me. The five-minute friend thing became obsolete with the rise of technology, so holding a conversation with random strangers is difficult anyway with attentions redirecting to phone screens every few moments. Ah, humanity- so much is bypassed in life. Missing reality while living vicariously through YouTube videos and Facebook feeds of seemingly more interesting lives.
Riding public transit is an experience unlike any other. In Portland where people strive to “Keep it Weird” a few pointers should be given, maybe a handbook should be made. Here is a slightly humorous but almost necessary collection of tips from me to you- the unsuspecting Portland Tri-met passenger.
  1. Headphones are a must. To avoid those award and uncomfortable conversations, headphones are akin to Harry potters cloak of invisibility. When headphones are present in ears, suddenly you don’t exist.
  2. Drugs are bad mmmkay? Yes people can tell you’re high and yes we can tell on what.
  3. People carry weapons. Guns are the least of your worries on public transit. There are large beastly animals, swords of all persuasions and sizes, blow guns, oh and poop.
  4. When your magical headphones don’t apply, using your smartphone to play odd animal sounds and war calls generally does the trick. If all else fails, play a religious sermon, maybe in say, Russian.
  5. There are arrows pointing to the exit at the rear yet people clamor to the front door inevitably fucking up the flow of passengers making us systematically later every stop.
  6. The smell of Cannabis makes everyone on the bus innately smile. They all secretly love you and want to be your friend.
  7. Don’t touch those dangling handles at all costs. I’ve seen hands rub and dig in snouts crotches and asses ten directly applied to those “safety” devices. I’m sure all sorts of lovely funk live on them. Learn to balance instead.
  8. Transit security police definitely believe they live in and govern a police state.
  9. If your ticket expires while riding- you are still getting that citation.
  10. That smell? I don’t even want to discuss it; we all pretend we can’t smell it.
  11. Mass transit is a people watcher’s haven, it is a little of Wal-Mart, sprinkled with some Jerry Springer, super sized and fried, placed in a Venti cup, shaken not stirred, one shot past closing time and smoked like a blunt.
  12. Yes that guy does have a backpack boom-box, yes that is Tech N9ne talking about screwing vampires from behind in front of your kids.
  13. On Friday night very drunk women believe the support poles are actually stripper poles.
  14. People always act surprised and frustrated when baby’s cry. Babies cry- it’s just what they do. Don’t worry; the babies probably hate you just as much as you do them- that may be why they are crying. Just ignore it, remember you don’t have to take them home.
  15. Sports fanatics carry on about the game, win or loss all the way across town, it’s like ESPN recaps on repeat only more vulgar and slightly intoxicated.
  16. That woman is definitely psycho-analyzing someone very audibly on the train, and yes it is dark, inappropriate and no one wants to hear it- Please- shut up, we all want you to. When people blare the Beatles on their smartphone they are trying to save the train from your voice.
  17. Giant bags of smelly soda and beer cans are commonplace on the bus. Don’t bitch, you don’t want litter and you don’t want to pick it up. These people don’t want litter, they are willing to pick it up and they make money for doing so. You do your cash, they do theirs, deal with it. I for one open my weed jar and smell there. Try that.
  18. Some Tri-met drivers have road rage; some drivers go uncomfortably fast, some believe their trains are also boats.
  19. Don’t complement mustaches; she may get really, really mad. But. Watching a mustached woman angrily yank on a hipsters beard while screaming insults is actually very entertaining.
  20. Dammit the drunken lady spilt her beer. Now we are a bar on wheels. Budweiser? Wtf!? This is basically microbrewery USA and you have that God awful shit in a cup? Be glad it spilled.
  21. Meth really is freaky stuff. The guy screaming at the top of his lungs in tongues, barefoot in December proves this. It is now scientific observation.
  22. Bus lines have their own demographics; you could call riding the bus cultural immersion 101. Portland really has it all. This place is epic, just don’t stare.
  23. Morning on the bus smells like coffee, hairspray and cigarettes; afternoon smells like French fries Hollister and beer cans; evening smells like motor oil, body odor and spray paint. Night time smells like stale liquor, falafel and refried weed.
  24. Did that guy really just fart!? Omg, smelling weed again.
  25. We all know strangers are weird, I get it. You want the seat all to yourself. But hey asshole isn’t it nice to sit after a long day? Move over and let other people find out how nice it really is.
Cannabis, Carrier Oils and Apoptosis of Cancer Cells
What is Apoptosis?
According to National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) a multicellular organism’s (Human) cells are members of a highly structured community. The quantity of cells in the community is regulated efficiently by governing the rate of cell mitosis as well as controlling the rate of cell death. When a cell is no longer needed, an intracellular death program is initiated that causes a cell to essentially commit suicide. This process is known as programmed cell death, medically and scientifically known as apoptosis which is drawn from a Greek word meaning “falling off.”
Why is Apoptosis so important to a cancer patient?
Some oncogenic mutations or precancerous lesions actually disrupt the mechanism of apoptosis, leading to tumor origination, progression or metastasis. This means that when the cells continue to divide and multiply, but do not die, cancer begins, grows and spreads. This is when cancer treatments are necessary.
Treatment Options
Cancer patients are offered a variety of treatment options that usually include Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and steroid therapy in different combinations and doses all with the same goal in mind: causing “Apoptosis” of malignant cells. These therapies though, are very toxic and overwhelming to the human body, leaving the patient very sick and frail, fighting for their lives. Radiation and chemotherapy force apoptosis in cancer cells, but these drugs cannot tell the difference between healthy cells and malignant cells – they kill all cells indiscriminately, this is the downfall to a pharmaceutical approach.
In the past decade the demand for less toxic more natural approaches to treating diseases including cancer has risen. Information about natural supplements, treatment concoctions and antioxidant-rich diets has flooded the internet. This allows patients and loved ones do their own research, and find what alternative therapy options may work for them. There is also a downfall to this approach; there is a plethora of inaccurate information that may lead people astray on their quest for health. It takes a great deal of research and critical thinking to come to an accurate conclusion.
Plant induced Apoptosis
Medical Cannabis patients have been professing the benefits cannabis has on their health for decades. The government has done research that has revealed some stunning facts about the plant that have been revealed as well as patented. The active compounds found in the plant, THC and CBD were found to be both antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic amongst other things. This means that the compounds actually arrest the spread of cancer as well as causing “apoptosis” of cancer cells.
The remarkable feature that apoptosis via cannabis possesses, is its ability to decipher between healthy and malignant cells, activating apoptosis selectively. By activating the endocannabinoid system, you actually enhance the efficacy of the human immune system by moderating it; this is why cannabis is also therapeutic to autoimmune diseases. The active metabolites attach to your receptors and allow the body to function in a state of balanced homeostasis.
Standard Cannabis Therapy
The most well-known and popular method of cannabis consumption is smoking the flower or buds. When treating a disease, this is actually the least effective method of use. The most therapeutic method of use is ingestion of concentrated cannabis essential oils. There are broad range of names for these concentrates, but do not feel overwhelmed. The easiest way to find what you are looking for is to ask for ethanol extracted cannabis oil. This will product will carry different names such as Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) Full-Extract Cannabis Oil (FECO) and others like it.
Extraction of plant essential oils with alcohol is an age old technique and it is still applied today. There are other beneficial forms of cannabis extracts such as steam distillation, Rosin Technique, Co2 extraction and more. However, in my experience the ethanol extract is one of the most widely available, versatile and therapeutically effective medicinal products derived from cannabis.
The raw whole plant extract is made with either just the buds or buds, trim, seed and stem. The difference is in purity level, each has its own benefits and downfalls. The oil most regularly is found stored in 1-10 gram oral syringes or pre dosed in capsules. Cannabis oil is dark amber or greenish oil that looks black in concentrated amounts. You can use this for almost every medical application you will attempt with cannabis from smoking to ingestion and topical application.
Enhancing Cannabis Therapy
While treating Cancer, efficacy of treatment is a huge factor in achieving remission. Increasing the bioavailability of the oil, or better yet, the compounds within the oil is the goal when you set out to enhance the effectiveness of your medicine. Ingesting raw cannabis oil is very effective, but a large portion of what you eat is wasted. The bio-availability of raw cannabis oil is about 25-40%; this means your body will absorb that much of your dose. There are ways to increase the bioavailability of your oil by infusing it into other essential oils or combining it with other plant materials that are also pro-apoptotic or antioxidant in nature.
Carrier Oils
Carrier oils are called this because they “carry” essential oils into the skin or tissues and bloodstream depending on internal or topical use. Carrier oils aid in the absorption of cannabinoids by making them more bioavailable. Cannabinoids from Cannabis are the primary components of cannabis essential oil; these compounds will be suspended within the carrier oil and brought into the system at a much higher rate than before. It is estimated that Carrier oils increase the absorption of cannabis oil from 25-40% to 75-80%. That is nearly doubling the rate of absorption. This saves money by allowing a smaller more effective dose to be consumed with the same rate of efficacy.
Each Carrier oil comes with their own individual nutritional benefits. Coconut oil is high in Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) which are an optimum fuel source for the body’s mitochondria. Apricot Kernel oil is high in Linoleic and Oleic acids with are Essential fatty acids (EFAs), but more importantly Apricot kernel oil has a very hard to come by component: Amygdalin or vitamin B 17. Amygdalin is very highly regarded and potent anti-cancer agent that nature provides, it is found in the soft kernels within the apricot pit. When amygdalin is extracted, purified and concentrated it becomes what is known as Laetrile. Amygdalin or Laetrile causes Apoptosis as well. Pumpkin Seed oil is one of the most highly nutritious seed oils there are with a complex and balanced broad spectrum of EFAs vitamins and minerals. Each of the following oils would make excellent carrier oils as well as conjunctive therapeutic agents for Cannabis oil.
A. Coconut Oil
B. Apricot Kernel oil
C. Grapeseed Oil
D. Olive Oil
E. Pomegranate Seed oil
F. Pumpkin Seed oil
Infusing Cannabis oil into these carrier oils is one of the most efficient treatment routes one can take in the natural medicine realm. I always recommend beginning with Coconut oil or Olive oil as these can stand higher heat and take the least amount of preparation and exertion to infuse, and use daily. Do not be afraid to experiment and find what works best for you and your personal lifestyle and diagnosis. Every person is unique just as is every single disease process. Cannabis oil is not the answer alone, fully recovering from any disease requires lifestyle and dietary modifications. You must work to bring your being back into homeostasis and balance your physical, mental and emotional energy centers. Cannabis oil is a very empowering and effective start to regaining your life and health.
The Portland Oregon #BurnsideBurn
The Burnside Burn, an infamous night on Burnside Bridge in Portland Oregon. This night was the eve of the end of Cannabis prohibition in Oregon. This night there was to be a free weed and seed giveaway, this night there was to be a smoke out on Burnside bridge, this night was to make history.
With the passage of Oregon’s Measure 91 last November by voters, recreational marijuana growth, possession, sales and consumption were legalized in the state. On July 1st, 2015 the law went into effect at midnight. Across the state veteran smokers and curious first-timers alike sparked up bowls and joints of high-quality Oregon grown cannabis to herald the new freedom. Portland though, Portland Oregon naturally kept it weird and created beautiful chaos that captured the attention of the entire nation.
The Uber Positive Pork Chop of Portland~
A man named Pork Chop, a very dedicated, obstreperous and irresponsibly loud activist decided that he would take it upon himself to shut down the Burnside bridge. In the months preceding Oregon’s official implementation of measure 91 he rallied people around his idea, even calling me during the Rose festival, until he caught the attention of larger area activists like Russ Belville president of Oregon’s chapter of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) who aided in publicizing and organizing the event.
Pork Chop became a celebrity overnight for gathering a line of thousands behind him, like the pied piper, with the promise to give away 420 pounds of cannabis flower to bystanders 21 and over. He captured the hearts and minds with the  of the crowd with the promise of the large amount of free weed and with chants like “Fuck the DEA” and “Free The Weed”, he gave out a handful of joints and free seeds to people, myself included.
Making Weed NORML
Russ Belville, founder of www.420radio.org and president of NORML Portland, brought plenty of attention to the event on his various platforms, inviting people to join in the fun atop the Burnside bridge at 11:30 on the eve of legalization in Oregon in anticipation of a public smoke-out that was to take place at midnight. He brought the maximum allowable according to the new state law, and smoked with friends and those close by at midnight along with 90% of those on the bridge. The group from NORML were able to gather the bulk of the revelers near the iconic Portland Stag sign, making photo history happen.
The #BurnsideBurn
When the crowd announced that it was midnight there was a collective cheer and thousands of BIC lighters clicking in unison as people excitedly celebrated their newly legal status, within minutes a giant cloud of smoke began emanating from the Burnside bridge. Sporadic coughing and loud shouts brought full realization to the nely relaxed marijuana laws in the state of Oregon. This giant smoke session signaled the death of Cannabis prohibition in Oregon, one of five US states to do so.
The Crowd
There were easily over 2500 people gathered on the infamous Burnside bridge in Portland spanning over the Willamette River. Some eagerly awaited free cannabis, others were content with just being a part of the highly energetic and populated albeit random event that took place in standard peaceful protest fashion, permitless. This gathering of spirits revealed the diverse peoples and cultures who were brought together in this one moment to celebrate a common ground. I heard a number of foreign languages spoken in excited tones no doubt talking about the change in law. People traveled from across the country, even as far as Tennessee and New York; some were from as far away as Canada.
The City-
The city of Portland, Oregon got very stoned this night as giant clouds of marijuana smoke rolled past their bedroom windows that were left open to enjoy a nice willamette valley summer breeze. They awoke the next morning feeling rejuventated and revitalized and had a lot of interesting local news to read about.
